What is Kentucky Guitar Works | KGW is located just three blocks from the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Owensboro, KY. In the heart of the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World, KGW is a hands-on, educational pilgrimage for pickers, collectors, and lovers of American bluegrass music. The space also includes instrument building apprenticeship programs, workshops, educational sessions, a viewing area, gallery for exhibition and demonstration, and merchandise. |
What is a luthier or lutherie? | Luthier is derived from a French world meaning a maker or repairer of stringed instruments such as guitars, mandolins, and violins. The craft of making stringed musical instruments is defined as lutherie. |
What is the primary purpose of Kentucky Guitar Works? | Kentucky Guitar Works will be the first of its kind in western Kentucky offering luthier workshops, educational sessions for aspiring instrument builders, apprenticeship programs, along with restoration of the traditional instruments of bluegrass music. The center is also slated to serve as a working guitar and stringed instrument company specializing in handcrafting highly regarded instruments. |
